The Visitacion Valley Redevelopment Plan calls for redevelopment of the long-vacant Schlage Lock site into the larger Visitacion Valley neighborhood, creating a transit-oriented mixed use development that will meet the community's goals and objectives for the project. The plan calls for the creation of as many as 1200 -1600 new residential units, including 300-400 affordable housing units, a mid-sized grocery store, and other neighborhood commercial ground floor retail on the Schlage site. It also includes three new interconnected neighborhood parks of different sizes, requires the extension of the Visitacion Valley street grid throughout the Schlage Lock property, and integrates the commercial backbone of the community, Leland Avenue, into the site. The plan supports strategic infill development and a number of community improvements outside the Schlage site, along Bayshore Boulevard and Leland Avenue. The project requires several actions by the Planning Commission, the Redevelopment Commission and the Board of Supervisors, including conforming amendments to the General Plan, Planning Code and Zoning Map of the Planning Code.
