About street space permits

Summary

Occasionally, the city of San Francisco grants permission to temporarily occupy a portion of a public roadway or sidewalk for construction purposes. When that happens, the city issues street space permits, which we map and publish in this section of EveryBlock.

Each report from the San Francisco Department of Public Works includes the project's location, the date the permit was issued and the date it expires, the permit number and (sometimes) a description of the work.

The data comes from the Bureau of Street Use and Mapping of the San Francisco Department of Public Works. We at EveryBlock look for new data each day, though weeks can go by before new information is available from the city.
