    The iGEM contest gives university labs a chance to try out little-explored approaches such as modifying chromatin, said Andrew Horwitz, a post-doctoral student in the Lim lab at UCSF's Mission Bay campus who directed the student team. Such ideas are often too risky for veteran scientists or post-docs, who are under constant pressure to publish solid findings, he said. "A lot of those constraints are lifted," Horwitz said.

    The SF Examiner also noted that emerging Mission Bay business and biotechnology research-hub ventures are the focus of a new long-term plan that includes more high-rises. It is not clear how high buildings will rise. But the SF Examiner reported that the Planning Dept. is seeking a separate plan for Fourth Street to allow for a landmark tower, reaching 1,000 feet.
