Potrero del Sol Skatepark Open for Business
Mission Skateboards is also located a couple of blocks away from the park at 24th and York streets. The shop will definitely come in handy if you bust a board, bearing or kingpin mid-session and aren’t quite ready to call it a day.

Divisadero St. & Fell St.
Is It the '70s All Over Again?
We snapped the above photo at everyone's favorite traffic mess - the Arco station on Fell and Divisadero. The sign on the fence reminded me of photos we'd seen of gas shortages back before we were sentient, but happily for drivers, this isn't the harbinger of shortages or rationing. The station will soon finish with their repair work, and people will once again be able to fill their H2s for $.02/gallon less than at the station across the street! Sadly, that means the traffic mess will return - today was the first time in a very long time that we'd gone up the Fell Street bike lane without having to dodge out into traffic to avoid a car blocking the lane or the sidewalk.

SF Muder Toll Hits 53
While the fuzz protects the gays and their wallets during Pride season, SF ticked another notch on its murder board. A neighborhood car mechanic, William Amrull, 50, was found shot to death near his Bernel Heights home, on the sidewalk near Holly Park Circle and Newman Street. "This had to have been random violence," said Amrull's former sister-in-law. "He's a gentle person. He leaves everybody alone and keeps to himself." Read more about it here.

Arrest In Road Rage Shooting
Anyway, there's sure to be tons of press on this story, which sees gang activity fatally overlapping with civilian life, so to speak. The Bologna has established two accounts for contributions. First off, the Anthony Bologna Children's Fund, No. 934-426443-9, c/o Washington Mutual Bank, 845 Laurel St., San Carlos, CA 94070. And the second, the Bologna Family Fund, c/o Wells Fargo Private Client Services, Mac No. A0101-071, 420 Montgomery St., seventh floor, San Francisco, CA 94104.

Rabid Bat Spooks Sunset District
A dead, rabid bat was found in the Sunset District on Vicente Street near 32nd Avenue. Which brings up two points we must bring up. One, if any Sunset denizens fear that you or your pet may have touched the rabid creature, call 415-554-2830 for help. Two, argh! There are bats in the city of San Francisco! What's more, It seems one to five rabid bats are found in San Francisco each year. Scary.

558 Monterey Blvd
Blocker: 500 Monterey
And although it doesn’t open for a few more hours, there’s Friends Bar at 558 Monterey, where judging by the evocatively dated sign that surely predates any cloying 1990s sitcom, the featured mixer is that X-factor of so many adult beverages, 7UP. From what we gather, it’s the quintessential neighborhood bar—certainly the zeitgeist-chasers who stumble their way around the Marina, Mission, and Tenderloin each weekend haven’t honed in on Friends yet, although the Glen Park BART station is closer than you think.

521 Monterey Blvd
Blocker: 500 Monterey
Other homes look tired and/or nondescript from the outside, but we suppose there’s a chance their interiors are spotless, thanks to Five-Star Housekeeping at 521 Monterey. This so-called housekeeping agency includes, as you’d hope to expect from such a concern, a tidy shopfront window featuring a French maid, or at least a lovingly carved miniature figure of one. We’ll call her Brigitte. Brigitte carries a tray with a feather duster, a scrub-brush, and a few boxes of detergent and fabric softener, her long blonde hair tucked atop her head. Five stars for authenticity, indeed.

567 Monterey Blvd
Blocker: 500 Monterey
One element here seems fairly fresh, and that’s the scattered gangs of palms and native, low-growing grasses that dot the four-lane street’s center divider. On a grey and kind of blustery afternoon in early summer, a pair of songbirds hide among the treetops, raising an impressive racket. Elsewhere along the block, foliage is ever-present but largely unremarkable. One notable exception is the home at 567 Monterey, a stone/wood confection swathed in near-suffocating amounts of ivy that still appears looked-after. We even spot a contemporary twist, as the home’s upstairs living room is decorated with posters from relatively recent Fillmore shows: Elvis Costello, Sleater-Kinney, and so on.
