Staffers at Cleveland Elementary School found the gun in the boy's backpack after overhearing children talking about a gun on campus, school officials said Monday. Police and the student's parents were then called to the Excelsior neighborhood school. It was unclear Monday whether the gun was loaded.

In conversation with the Mission Dispatch Keigwin also mentioned that many residents in the area have to commute some distance just to get to a grocery store or post office. Fran Martin who has lived in Visitacion Valley for over 15 years agreed. She sees the situation with the Cow Palace as “a misuse of a large amount of land.” “There is very little here for the residents and to have some amenities that serve the community would be a major improvement to the area,” said Martin.

Rainwater noted that other venues like Candlestick Park for example are uncomfortable for large groups with families, especially in poor weather. “The wind in Candlestick can be unbearable,” she said. Rainwater hopes the City of Daly City will reconsider its ideas about the Cow Palace.
