Through October: Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts presents Art of Democracy: an exchange of political posters between Bay Area artists and artists from Puerto Rico through Dec. 13, 2008. The exhibition is part of a national coalition of political art exhibitions called the Art of Democracy (www.artofdemocracy.org) which will take place until the elections. Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, Galeria Zapatista is located on the 4th floor, 2868 Mission Street, San Francisco.

Through October: The Atlas Cafe presents the best in live bluegrass and old-time music every Thursday night from 8-10 p.m. Oct. 16 features Belle Monroe & her Brewglass Boys; October 23 hosts Julay Brooks & the Nightbirds, Oct. 30 is Bluegrass & old-time jam session--now in it's 11th year! Never a cover charge. The Atlas Cafe is at 3049 20th St. at Alabama St in San Francisco's Mission District.

Saturday, October 11: Galería de la Raza presents Recession Proof PACHANGA, celebrating its 8th annual auction of Latino art with works small and large by local and international artists, on Sat., Oct. 11, 2008, from 7 to 10 p.m. This annual fundraiser supports of a year-long calendar of Latino visual arts programs in the Bay Area as well as next generation arts education programming for Mission District youth. The live auction begins at 8 p.m. at Galería de la Raza, 2857 24th St.
