  • SoMa 2M-SF Industrial Rezone Gets OK'd

The plan, likely tweaked by the Supervisors, removes some industrial area in favor of thousands of new housing units surrounding the Mission Bay district, Showplace Square/Potrero Hill, east SoMa and the central waterfront neighborhoods–the heart of the city’s industrial past–while restricting residential and office from cannibalizing more of the area.

  • Hayes Valley X-Men go west, to San Francisco

"The X-Men moving to San Francisco isn't just a physical move, it's a spiritual move. I love San Francisco and we want to see it really represented," says the city native during an interview last week at Isotope Comics in Hayes Valley. "Anyone who looks at the X-Men, the analogy is right there: If you're different in any way due to race or sexual orientation or just being nerdy, there's an X-Men character for you. They're about being different and finding strength in that weakened position."

  • SoMa Letters

As the density of San Francisco grows — especially in the Downtown/SoMa/Mission Bay neighborhoods, we will be hard-pressed to ensure that we can provide safe, healthy, and reliable transit options. While easily construed as just another anti-car movement, the transition of Market Street to a mass transit and bike-only corridor seems like a good first step.

  • Mission Letters

I commute down Market Street every day from the Mission District to Spear Street. It's always such a pleasure to coast down with other bicycles and the groupings of Muni buses and trains in their dedicated transit lanes. Between transit and the increase in bikes, there already seems little room for cars — especially considering that most of them seem to be driven by out-of-town commuters and tourists.

The office approved $200,000 for Mission neighborhood centers and the Instituto Familiar De La Raza center for this budget year.
